who let the dogs out?

We have over 180 sign-ups to date and the function is now full house. Late registrants (those who signed up later than Aug 20 and walk-ins on the day of the event) cannot be guaranteed the freebie but all will have a good time nevertheless.

  • The pub crawl starts at 6.00pm
  • Registration opens at 4.30pm
  • Last registration at 6.00pm
  • Registrants are required to wear the wristband issued (for drinks and food)

Location:

The pub crawl will begin and end at the Backyard Pub, 26-30 Jalan Sri Hartamas 8, Taman Sri Hartamas, KL 50480. Please note the area is NOT Desa Sri Hartamas – it is Taman Sri Hartamas (old Hartamas) and notable landmarks here are the EON Bank and Petronas. There is ample car parking in front, behind and by both sides of the Backyard Pub. Please park your car in a manner that does not obstruct/inconvenience other customers. Backyard Pub location map.

The trail:

The pub trail is just over 6km but you won’t feel it is long or tough because there are hardly any hills (except the first small one). Please try to keep up with the pack so that you get to savour all the pub and wagon stops. Should you like to carry your drink with you from stop to stop, please ensure you only take away the plastic glasses and please re-use these glasses where possible. Above all, please do not litter! If you’re seriously late or lost, call Tarzan on 012 222 2209. It will be a good idea to carry along your mobile phone with you. We have planned 3 wagon stops, 3 pub stops and one surprise ‘take and go’ stop over the 6km.

Dinner and on on:

Buffet dinner be served from 8.30pm (when the first pub crawlers are expected back) onwards at the entrance of the Backyard Pub. There will be more drinks and partying with a live band and resident DJ in the Backyard till 11pm or till the booze runs out whichever happens later.

Backyard Pub presently occupies 2 lots and there is a good possibility the 3rd shoplot can be open by Friday. Just in case it gets too crowded and/or smoky, you’re welcome to sit outside. In such a case, it would be advisable for hashers to bring along their hash chairs.

Freebie:

The Merdeka Pub Crawl freebie is a specially designed sarong and the pub crawl committe is hoping the pub crawlers will don this sarong on the run. There will be no compulsion, but it would be nice to see all the pub crawlers in a head-turning uniform theme. Just before the run, Johan and Lord Kris will show you 101 ways to wear a sarong!

Other Comments:

Please note that Aug 27 is a holiday in Selangor (and perhaps other states). There is no shower facility so as in a usual hash run, please bring your own bathing water. Since you will not be sweating much, you may prefer to leave out the shower bit and just get into the party mood. As in any pub crawl, please be mindful that you’re moving around in a built-up area with motor vehicles so please exercise caution when drinking and having a good time.

RSC Hash – the first newsletter dated 1991

Hi Shyam,

Thanks to Yitali, Connie and yourself for the good effort. (You published it). A really good piece of information. I totally agree this should be put up in our Hash Heritage Room.

It puts to rest many issues, amongst others, such as some avoiding to say who actually founded the RSC Hash. (To me this was perhaps to lay claim as being either the founder or being one of the founders) I may be wrong but this is my personal view.

Whilst it is now clear from the newsletters that Cheong Kai Yong was the founder (Well I had always advocated this fact) the literature still does not answer from which Chapter was RSC Hash born. Who is the “Mother” of RSC Hash? However, it has made it easier or brought us nearer to the answer.

The answer lies in the simple question – which Chapter did Kai Yong last run with i.e. immediately before RSC Hash was born? Whatever claims or knowledge anyone may claim, once we know which Chapter Kai Yong use to run with on a regular basis that would be the Chapter where RSC Hash was born from. Period.

So you need to find the answer to this question from the man himself and tell us about it.  Thanks.  Regards, Hardy.

Dear friends,
Since many of you have shown interest in this year’s RSC Junior Hash Survivor Camp (28-29 August 2010), we kindly request you all to fill up the attached registration form for planning and catering purposes and return it completed to geyzel1@gmail.com latest by 10 August 2010. Please note that there is a difference in prices as to if you are hash section member, RSC member, or friend of RSC (guest). Please indicate on the registration form which category you and your guests belong to. Our junior hash section members are free of charge. There will be a “survivor” t-shirt for all participants who stay overnight, so please indicate preferred size and we will do our very best to fulfill your requirement, but reserve the right to changes due to unforeseen circumstances.
Hashers who wish to participate only in the junior hash run are more than welcome to join and it will be treated as a normal run. However, since the on on will be on-site and our resources limited, the organizers would appreciate it if you could kindly notify us in advance for catering purposes. Yours in hash, on on. RSC’s Junior HASH Section is now ready to invite young and older for their 3rd annual Survivor Camping trip. “So you think you can survive?“ Come and join us for a weekend full of outdoor activities, starting off with the obligatory junior hash run followed by loads of camping activities, fun and festivities in a Malaysian Prime Jungle.

The event is open to non-hash section members and friends of our juniors. However, the organizers reserves the right to a ‘first come first serve basis’, so if you and your family REALLY wanna join, you better sign up now. Don’t wait!

About 50 hashes assembled at the run site and the runners took off at exactly 6pm. Directions and signs to the run site were excellent and nobody had any problem finding the site. This was also probably due to the frequency of runs held here.

Runners had an option of a short run and a medium run. Most of those who went on the short run were back by 7.30 pm. It was fortunate that the short run was completed by the time it got dark as the trail coming down was very steep and dangerous and could have posed a problem if it was dark. Those who opted for the medium run cameback as late as 9pm, except for Sanjeev and Dr Brig, who hit the home trail by accident. Apparently there was a lot of confusion amongst the front runners, who couldn’t break the last check, except for Daniel and a few others, who persevered and came in late. Even the walkers had difficulty breaking a check on top of the hill, which was not properly connected by the front pack. Finally our front runners were outwitted by the crafty co-hares Charles Cool and Walking Tall Ganesan. All in all, the majority found it an excellent run with the 2 seperate trails, which would have brought the runners and walkers back at the same time.

During the circle, the GM thanked Dr Palar profusely for graciously accepting to set the run at the last minute when the designated hare was unable to do so. All the hashers gave Dr Palar a “big hand”. There were 2 first time guests. A man brought by Dr Palar received hardly any attention as full attention was focused on a very charming young Indian lass, who “came together” with our very own Catherine.

An excellent spread of food was served on site and in addition to the 2 barrels of draft beer, the hare provided a crate of beer, wine and chivas regal whiskey. The caterer also served a delicious appetizer and there was plenty of chilled durian, provided by Jennifer Ong, as the runners returned. The ON! ON! went on till late as there was plenty of food and drinks. Even Tuan Burns, who did not run appeared late and handed out costumery dates to all present for the fasting month. A big terima kasih to the hare for an excellent job!  On On!
